WORKMAN, Helen D. -- Age 92 of Burton, died November 12, 2014. At Helen's request there is to be no funeral service. Visitation will be held from 12 - 8 PM on Sunday November 16 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A private burial will take place Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Helen was born at Deaconness Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Ernest W. and Hulda (Lagerlof) Thorsen on January 27, 1922. She grew up in Robinsdale, Minnesota and as a young woman moved to Chicago where she met and married her husband, Raymond D. Workman at St. James Church in Maywood in 1943. After the war, the couple moved to the Flint area, eventually settling in Burton where they raised 5 children. Helen was a lifelong homemaker and a wife, the career she said she always aspired to. She loved to cook, to bake, sew, work needlepoint to give as gifts, and especially to host family gatherings. Helen is survived by daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Van Leeuwen of Grand Rapids, daughter, Susan (Charles) Fetzer of Swartz Creek, son, William (Cynthia) Workman of Buchanan; son in law Victor Scharrer Sr. of Columbiaville; daughter in law, Cynthia Kittendorf of Cedar; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1990; daughter, Mary in 1994; son, Michael in 2009. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
