OPRE, Helen Marie (Ebare, Hansen) - Age 95, formerly of Swartz Creek, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (A live stream of the service will be available on Helen's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Burial in Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to a charity of ones choice. Helen was born in Grand Rapids on April 5, 1927 to Frank and Mary (Gallivan) Ebare. Her family moved to Flint when she was a young girl. She was an excellent student, skipping a grade and graduating from Northern High School in 1944. Helen accomplished her lifetime goal of becoming a registered nurse and loved taking care of babies in Hurley Hospital's Preemie Nursery. She married the love of her life, George Opre in 1973 and they had many happy years together before his death in 2009. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing bingo. She raised four daughter's who survive her: Karilyn (Lee) Rust of Orlando, FL, Kathleen (Don) Morey of Swartz Creek, Kay (Peter) Doerr of Mundy Township, and Kristine (Alan) Jory of Fenton. In addition to her daughters, Helen is survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Sadly she will not meet her great grandson who is expected in May 2023. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Rehkopf of Grand Rapids. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin and Frank Ebare. Helen's kindness, love of children and legendary chicken and dumplings will be long remembered.
