MAKRANYI, Helen Theresa (Kovalcsik) - age 89 passed from this world to her eternal reward on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Avalon Hospice in Flint. The mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 PM Monday, December 7, 2009 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Ave., Flint with Fr. Steve Makranyi and Father Robert Copeland con-celebrants. Interment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Saturday where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will also be held 12:30 until the time of mass on Monday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Catholic Charities of Genesee County. Helen was born in Flint, MI May 5, 1920 to Frank and Mary (Bodnar) Kovalcsik. Her brothers John (Sally) and Frank (Helen) preceded her in death. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Flint with her family and graduated from Flint Northern High School. On June 21, 1941, Helen and Steve A. Makranyi were married at St. Joseph Church. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2006. Surviving to cherish her memory are: four children, Father Steven Makranyi, George P. Makranyi (Dorothy), Ann Marie Schutt (Larry), and Susan Brown M. (Paul); nine grandchildren, George, Steve, Lisa, Theresa, Anthony, Bethany, Amy, Kathryn and Jeffrey; 11 great-grandchildren. Helen was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a stay-at-home mom, caring for her home and family. They attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. All who knew her were blessed by her kind and gracious manner, her friendship and love, and her strong and abiding faith. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
