DICKENSON, Helen Louise (Hedrick) - Age 88, of Flushing and recently of Fenton, passed away July 23, 2022. Services will be held 11 AM Friday, July 29, 2022 at Flushing Presbyterian Church, 5010 North McKinley Road, Flushing. Those desiring, may make contributions to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center. Helen was born June 19, 1934 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Tom and Mary (Froman) Hedrick. She married Norman Dickenson on August 14, 1954 in Flint. Helen earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan - Flint as well as a master's degree from Oakland University. She retired from the Flushing Community Schools in 1997 after 25 years of teaching 5th grade at Seymour Elementary. After retiring, Helen continued to be a passionate educator and children's advocate. She volunteered with various education programs in Flint as well as with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Genesee County where she represented the interests of abused and neglected children. Helen loved to travel globally, attend the theater and symphony, play cards with friends, and was an avid reader who loved her books. She is survived by her children, David (Karen) Dickenson, Laura (Rick) Baragwanath, Lynne Anderson, and Steve (Royaa Soltani) Dickenson; grandchildren, Matthew Baragwanath, Shannon Anderson Freeman, Jessica Bledsoe, Jonathan Anderson, Skyler Dickenson, Adam Dickenson, Emory and Julian; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Jean (Don) Theil and brother, Tom (Judy) Hedrick. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband two months earlier; her parents; sister, Barbara Ogden; and grandson, Ryan Baragwanath. The family extends its heartfelt thanks for the support and compassion provided to the family by the staff of Vicinia Gardens and The Medical Team Hospice in Fenton.
