Hazel J. PORTER

PORTER, Hazel J., age 89 of Swartz Creek, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at home. Mrs. Porter was born in Wausau, WI December 11, 1920 the daughter of Edward and Clara (McKellar) Nelson. She has been a Swartz Creek resident since 1957. She was a registered nurse, having graduated from the School of Nursing at W.A. Foote Hospital and post graduate work at New York Hospital. Mrs. Porter had been employed by both hospitals and retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Flint. She married Jack W. Porter in 1945 in Jackson, MI and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was an avid seamstress and down hill skiier. She enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, gardening and cooking. Surviving are her son, Nelson (Glenna) Porter, daughter, Janita (Daniel) Ream. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Duane Porter (Shelley), Amy (Matt) Moros, Brent (Teresa) Porter, Aricka Ream (Cory Fuller) and Amber Ream. Great-grandchildren; Crystal, Matthew, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Alaina, Alexis, Hazel Rose, Jakob and Jordan; and a brother, Harvey Nelson. She was also preceded in death by: son, Jack, Jr. (Winn) and wife, Terri. A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Rd. Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd. Swartz Creek. Rev. Aaron Whitman will officiate. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to the time of service. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Woodhaven Senior Community and especially the wonderful health care aides who provided such special care.
