SMITH, Harry Dale - Age 91, of Swartz Creek, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024. Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via the link on Mr. Smith's obituary page at www.sharpfuneral homes.com). Pastor Daniel Patz officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Harry was born May 2, 1933 in Paragould, AR, the son Terry Lee and Inathe (Swihart) Smith. He was a 1951 graduate of Paragould High School in Paragould, AR. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Marilyn Joyce Mays June 26, 1954 in Swartz Creek and she preceded him in death August 22, 2021. Harry retired from GM Chevrolet Truck and Bus as a supervisor after 28 years of service; He also served as the Gaines Township Supervisor for 10 years. He was a former member of Gaines United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Fenton V.F.W. Curtis-Wolverton Post #3243 and the Durand Eagles. He also was a member of Swartz Creek American Legion, Fenton Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Harry also was a past member of the Fenton Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing and playing poker.
Surviving are: his children, Deborah (Larry) Cross of Gaines, Jodi Stiles of Swartz Creek, Terry (Kelly) Smith of Florida and Barbara DeCaire of Flushing; daughter-in-law, Chris Smith of Florida; sister-in-law, Kay Smith of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren and 14 1/2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, David Smith; sister, Marge Pace; and brothers, Alfred, Robert and Gerald Smith.
