Harry Harden

HARDEN, Harry Joseph - age 98, of Linden, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Caretel Inns in Linden. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel. 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Those desiring may make contributions to The Thin Blue Line. Harry was born in Durand, Michigan on July 8, 1918, the son of Will and Elizabeth (Hoerauf) Harden. He graduated from Durand High School in 1935. He married Juanita Behlow in Angola, Indiana in 1940. Together they had one son, Tim. Juanita preceded him in death in 1976. Harry worked at Ford Motor Company in Detroit before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. After his service he and his brother, Floyd, partnered to build the Durand Post Office and Library, and many houses in Durand. He then partnered with his brother-in-law, Jack Easton, to start Durand Equipment and Manufacturing. In 1977, Harry married Dorothy (Doris) Hickman. They enjoyed living at Silver Lake and wintering in Florida. He will be missed by: his wife, Dorothy; his children, Tim (Kay), Rosemary (Brian) DuBois, and Sue Lanning; grandchildren, Leslie (Kirk) Telford, Wendy (Terry) Greig, Jay (Penny) Harden, Jim (Bobby) Harden, Amy Maul, Bill (Rachel) Lanning, Todd (Cristi) Lanning; many great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren, Madison and Daxton; sister, Elaine Andrews; sister-in-law, Georgine Easton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Floyd Harden; brother-in-laws, Jack Easton, Robert Andrews, John and Warren Davis; sisters-in-law, Audrey Easton and Patricia Harden; son-in-law, Bill Lanning; sisters, Lela VanBuren and Iola Welch. The family extends a special thank you to Comfort Keepers, Caretel Inns and Reverence Hospice.
