Harold Mertz

MERTZ, Harold Robert - Age 92, of Fenton, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017. A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Harold was born October 1, 1925 in Owosso, the son of David and Sophia (Zittel) Mertz. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. He married June Ann Shepola June 12, 1948 and she preceded him in death July 20, 1973; he then married Orbra Jean (Spears) Chesebro October 19, 1974 in Fenton. He had attended General Motors Institute. He retired from GM AC Spark Plus in 1982 after 38 years of service. Harold was a member of the U.A.W. Local #651 and was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc. Surviving are: his wife, Jean; 6 children, Allan Mertz of Flint, Karen Bigelow of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sallie (David) Davis of Okemos, Dawn (Ron) Kreklau of Flushing, David (Peggy) Mertz of Flint, and Robin (Joe) Lester of Flint; 2 step daughters, Lynne (Scott) Mannard of Grand Rapids and Linda Rusaw of Fenton; 19 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
