HACKNEY, Greta A. (Burger) - age 83, of Burton, died Monday, February 25, 2019. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 1, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Genesee County. Greta was an amazing Dutchwoman, chef's wife, and a gourmet caterer in her own right. Greta and Jim served many meals to Flint area people while raising a son and making a home. She and Jim operated Hackney's Restaurant, as well as, Hackney's Catering in Burton for a time. She came from a family of 14 in Volendam, Holland and became a U.S. Citizen just two years ago. Greta traveled frequently to visit her large family in Volendam and enjoyed loving and nurturing her three grandsons and one great-grandson. She was a person who loved unconditionally and has a huge heart and empathy for everyone. Greta enjoyed going on golf vacations up north with Jim, family and friends although she was much better with a chef's knife than a golf club. She leaves behind: husband, Jim; son, Oliver and his amazing wife, Terri (Green) Hackney; three grandsons, Ryan, Jonathan and Oliver "Drew"; one great-grandson, RJ; numerous nephews and nieces, including two very special nieces, Susan Seitz and Georgia Croke; eight siblings in Holland; and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law. She will be sorely missed by Jim with whom she was married for 53 years, and all who knew her. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
