Gregorio R. 'Greg' MARTINEZ

MARTINEZ, Gregorio R. "Greg" - Age 75, of Flint, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint. Fr. Tim Nelson celebrant. Visitation will be held 1-8 PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint, where a rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church from 9 AM until the time of mass Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to Our Lady of Guadalupe Building Fund. Greg was born May 10, 1935 in Edcouch, TX and was raised in Weslago, TX. He was a migrant worker and very proud of it before moving to Flint in 1953. He was employed by GM Buick Division for 39 1/2 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of UAW Local #599 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1958-1960. He was married to Theresa Flores Markos in 1962. Mr. Martinez was the former chairman of American GI Forum - Flint Chapter, former member of Spanish Speaking Centers Council, member of Knight of Columbus in Davison, Chairman of Committee Patriotico. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and also belonged to Church Hispanic Senior Center and Kraphol Senior Center. Surviving are: wife, Theresa; daughters, Jeanette (Rogelio) Aguilera, Lydia (Jeff) Freeman, Alice Martinez; son, Greg Jr. Also, Rita and Kim; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Victor (Luisa) Martinez, Pablo (Alejandra) Martinez, Jim (Jeri Ann) Martinez; sisters, Cristina Soliz, Susie Mendoza and Pat Cruz; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Concha Martinez; son, Raymond Duran; brother, Tony Martinez; sisters, Estella Garcia and Martina Rodriguez.
