Grace Wardie

May 13, 1921 — November 13, 2020

Grace Wardie went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 13, 2020. She passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia after a recent fall at her home. Grace Leone (Lobb) Wardie was born on May 13, 1921 in Saginaw, MI to Wilfred S. & Zada (Ostrander) Lobb. She graduated in 1939 from Linden High School, and then attended Detroit Business Institute in Pontiac. Grace worked at R.P. Lewis Co. in Flint, MI until her marriage to Joseph D. Wardie on September 20, 1941 in Akron, MI. Grace was raised in a Christian family and accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 7. Her grandparents, Reverend and Mrs. U.G. Ostrander, served as ministers at the Linden United Methodist Church for several years. One of Grace’s brothers, Richard Lobb, and his son, Grant Lobb, both became Methodist ministers. Grace and Joe attended the Fenton Methodist Church for many years, where she taught the 6th grade girls’ Sunday School class and belonged to WSCS. Later, she and Joe attended Hidden Springs Church in Howell, MI, where Joe served as pianist. Grace was a dedicated prayer warrior for her family, friends and anyone who needed prayer support. In recent years she enjoyed the friendship of two very special care givers, Cathy Tyrna and Cindy McCloskey, who never failed to give her hugs and play Skip Bo (her favorite pastime) with her. Grace is survived by two sons: Joseph L. (Mary) Wardie of Fenton, and Ron (Janeen) Wardie of Kalkaska; and daughter, Gloria Weaver of Alpena; also sister, Myrna Winer of Pontiac; brother, Donald Lobb of Livonia; sister-in-law, Marion Wardie of Linden; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Grace has 7 grandchildren: Amy (Matt) Rechsteiner, Joseph M. (Dorie) Wardie, Benjamin (Amy) Weaver, Daniel (Monica) Weaver, Chad (Missy) Wardie, Cameron (Becky) Wardie, and Joshua (Danielle) Marsh. She also has 23 great grandchildren: Jonathan, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, Jack, Nathan, Reagan, Quinn (Drew), Shane, Miles, Kalicia, Emily, Claire, Kate, Clayton, Abbigale, Grace, Magdalyn, Cecelia, Ashlynn, Mackenna, Olivia, and Sophie. Grace was preceded in death by her stillborn son, Rickie Dale Wardie, and husband of 63 years, Joseph D. Wardie; two brothers and their wives: Wilfred J. & Catherine Lobb and Richard & Lola Lobb; brother-in-law, Calvin "Bud" Wardie; son-in-law, Harold "Skip" Weaver; sister-in-law, Marcelene Lobb; and grandson, Zechariah Marsh. Private services will be held at Linden United Methodist Church. Grace’s nephew, Rev. Grant Lobb will officiate. Public visitation will be held 3-5 & 6-8pm Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Face masks will be required, but the family respects the fact that some people may not feel comfortable attending an indoor gathering due to health concerns during the current virus situation. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Heartland Hospice, 6211 Taylor Dr, Flint, MI 48507, www.heartlandhomehealth.com.
