"In Loving Memory of Gordon Allen Spencer"
Gordon Allen Spencer, a dedicated track coach, beloved Biology teacher, husband, and father, passed away on May 10, 2023, in Melbourne, FL. He was born on June 3, 1932, in Saginaw, Michigan but spent most of his life in Flint, MI. Gordon devoted an incredible 55 years of his life to coaching track and cross country. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his students and his passion for the sport. In addition to his successful career as a track coach, Gordon also taught Physical Education and Drivers Ed. Gordon served in the US Army as a Lieutenant. He actively attended Holy Redeemer Church for many years.
Outside of his professional life, Gordon was a devoted husband and father. He was married to his wife, Rose, for over six decades, and together they raised four children.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Rose, brother Ron (Ruth) of Georgia, daughter Susan (Richard) Wassmuth, daughter Sandra LaCroix, and son Greg (Beth) Spencer, as well as grandchildren Michael (Kelsey) LaCroix, Sarah (Ben) Wollett, Jacob LaCroix, Nathan Wassmuth, and Gabriella Spencer, and great-granddaughter Savannah and great-grandson Callahan, along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Glenn and his parents.
A memorial service will be held in Gordon's honor on June 23, 11am at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Gordon are invited to pay their respects and honor his remarkable life.
