Gordon Sowden, Jr.

SOWDEN, Gordon John, Jr. - age 79, of Alpena, formerly of Flint, died Monday, October 29, 2018. A memorial service will be held 4 PM Friday, November 2, 2018 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. The family will receive friends from 1 PM - 4 PM Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Gordon was born August 31, 1939 in Cass City, MI, the son of Gordon John and Greta Fern (Feekings) Sowden, Sr. He was a 1956 graduate of Flint Northern High School. Gordon married Judith A. Weaks on January 15, 1983 and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2013. He retired from General Motors in 1992 as a Supervisor after 26.5 years of service. Gordon loved golf, woodworking, and especially his grandchildren and his loyal dog, Bogey. He had served as the Vice Chairman of Alpena Parks Commission, Director of Alpena Country Club, President of Alpena Men's Golf Association and President of Alpena Country Club Seniors. Surviving are: nine children, Gordon J. Sowden III, Julie Sowden-Jones, Kristine (Joseph) Sowden-Karasek, Gina (Jeff) Eldon, Daniel (Trina) Sowden, Kevin (Jennifer) Kentish, Randy Walker, Brian Walker, and Michael (Cheryl) Walker; 22 grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Patricia who unselfishly cared for him these last few months; sister, Sharon Richardson; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; and his brother, Gary Sowden. Special thank you to his hospice nurses, Blenda, Diana, Amy and John for their constant source of support.
