MEIER, Gerald Thomas "Jerry" Beloved husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully Tuesday, April 17 at the age of 79. A memorial service will be held 1 PM Saturday, April 28, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Road SE, Bonita Springs, FL 34135. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, Kettering University (www.kettering.edu), The United Way of Lee County (www.unitedwaylee.org) or Joanne's House at Hope Hospice (www.hopehcs.org). A devoted Christian, he loved God and his family always putting others first. He was born in Flint, Michigan where he attended Flint Technical High School. He attended college at General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, and graduated in 1961 from the Manufacturing Engineering Program. He attended graduate school at North Carolina State University on a GM fellowship and graduated in 1963 with a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. He began his work career with General Motors as a co-op at AC Spark Plug where he worked for 25 years in both Flint and Milwaukee. He transferred to Delco Products in Dayton, Ohio in 1983 where he worked as the Global Manufacturing Director until he retired in 2000. His career with General Motors / Delphi spanned 43 years. Civic involvement was important to Jerry. He volunteered extensively in all cities he lived. In Flint, he was active with United Way and the Boy Scouts as a former Eagle Scout, in Milwaukee he worked with the United Way and Marquette University and in Dayton he continued his support of United Way and Arts Dayton. In retirement, he continued to volunteer for the United Way and Habitat for Humanity. He has always been an active member in the Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, Trustee, and most recently a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. Jerry enjoyed golf, bridge, theater, travel and spending time with his daughter's family and the many friends he was blessed with. He is preceded in death by father Alton Meier and mother Dorothy Lewis Meier. He is survived by wife, Barbara, of 56 years, daughter, Marylou Salmon, son-in-law, Peter Salmon, granddaughter, Kate Salmon, and grandson, Matt Salmon who reside in Tipp City, OH.
