Gerald (Mick)Patrick McCarty Jr Of Southport was called home to heaven on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, Wilmington NC. A military memorial service will be held May 11, 2019 in Linden Michigan. Pastor and niece, Brittany Culver officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Gerald was born in Flint Michigan on January 4, 1954, the son of Gerald P. McCarty Sr and Patricia (Bird) Stearns. Mick proudly served in the United States Navy from 1973-1977. During his service he was assigned to the USS Ashtabula. After serving in the Navy Mick worked for General Motors, Flint Michigan before relocating to Southport NC. When he arrived in South Port he worked as a commercial fisherman before moving on to work for Carmichael Construction. His final employer was Bald Head Island Limited. Mick was known throughout his naval career and by all his employers to have a witty nature and kept morale strong with his fellow employees. He made friends wherever he went and never passed judgement on anyone. The world was certainly a better place because of his presences. He is greatly missed and leaves behind his soulmate and love of his life, Donna Fields, daughter Kara (McCarty) Gearhart and husband Mike, son Ryan McKeon and wife Amanda, Mellisa Black and husband Mike, Sheilah St George, grandchildren Aryah and Ciera Gearhart, Brendon, Connor, Kennedy, Colton, and Jackson McKeon, Josh Holcomb, Mackenzie Brown, Haden Black, three sisters, Ruthann Holland-McCarty Bennett, Kimberly Davidson and husband David, Tina Carter and husband Mark, brother Brek Stearns and wife Kileen, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
