Gerald M. Coons

COONS, Gerald Melvin- Age 70, of Burton, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, March 31, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint.  Pastor Carl Halquist officiating.  Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1-4 and 6-9 PM Sunday.  Those desiring may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association.  Gerald was born December 7, 1937 in Flint, the son of Delphin Delmas and Ruth Irene (Monroe) Coons.  He married Alvina A. Dennis October 2, 1959 in Flint.  He had resided in the Flint area his entire life.  He was a Viet Nam veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.  He retired in 1994 from Buick after 30 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shiners.  He was also an avid sportman.  Surviving are: wife, Alvina; 2 daughters, Dawn Marie Coons and Marcy DesJardins of Kenosha, WI, Denise Ann and husband Brian Stemo of Grayslake, IL; 2 grandhchildren, Gerald and Sarah Stemo; brother, William and wife Vicki Coons of Flint; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Coons; sister, Wanda Bradford.  Online condolences and tributes may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
