Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this sorrowful time of grief. Sharp Funeral Homes has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. George was born on October 1, 1928 in Evanston, Illinois to the late DeForrest & Louise (Potter) Walton. He was the great-grandson of Theodore Edgar Potter, which made him a direct descendent of a Michigan pioneer. George graduated from Hastings High School, class of 1945. He then furthered his education at Western Michigan University, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. It was at Western Michigan University that George met Ingrid Aschinger, and married her on June 14, 1952. She was the mother of his two daughters, Daphne and Sally, and she preceded him in death in 1983 at the age of 53.

He was a renaissance man of many talents and interests. Although he traveled all over the world for both business and pleasure, he was always the fun loving hometown boy from his beloved Hastings, and would often reminisce about being the drum major in the high school band and spending many happy hours on Gun Lake on a Snipe sailboat that he built named Jinx.

George was an entrepreneur at heart, as well, and he had a passion for travel with all the adventures, new people to meet, and learning opportunities that these travels offered him. He lived with Ingrid, Daphne and Sally in Tokyo, Japan for 7 years and then in Berlin, Germany for 16 years. Being the gregarious and extroverted man that he was, the family would always marvel at how he had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone...he never met a stranger. He was sharp witted and loved to tell stories and joke around with plays on words. One of his favorite stories was about how he flew a kite on the Great Wall of China!

After returning to Bethesda, Maryland and after Ingrid's death, George devoted himself to his work and unexpectedly fell in love again. He met Bobbie Clayton, a woman with the passion to rival his own when it came to loving fun, adventure, travel, music and hard work. They were married on September 21, 1984 and shared 40 years of marriage living in Bethesda, Maryland and then in Davison, Michigan.

The following are some of George's business ventures:

George worked for Pacific Architects and Engineers in Tokyo, Japan from 1956-1962 as the business manager for engineering projects in Korea, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Vietnam and the Philippines. After this, he was an international entrepreneur in Berlin, Germany from 1964-1976. Upon returning to the U.S., George worked as the business manager of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators in Washington D.C. Additionally, George established and founded the Automotive Equipment Compliance Agency (AMECA).

He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie; two daughters, Daphne (Mark) Prescott and Sally (Mark) Gregson; three step-children, Kathleen (Mark) Seamans, Richard Zagone and Alan (Chanda) Burd; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, Victor Walton. George is further survived by many cousin, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ingrid Walton and two brothers, De Forest and John B. Walton.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to honor George, the family requests donations be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hastings, Michigan. Donations can also be made to any Humane Society or Domestic Violence Shelter of their choice in his name.
