Peltonen, George Washington - Age 88, of Grand Blanc, died February 21, 2022. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint (A live stream of the service will be available on George's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Pastor Mark Cox officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
George was born February 22, 1933 in Flint, the son of Oscar and Anna (Rivers) Peltonen. He was a 1951 graduate of Flint Central High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Naomi Byrd June 17, 1972 in Grand Blanc and she preceded him in death January 17, 2013. He had resided in Grand Blanc for the past 50 years. George retired from Hall Steel (Scion Steel) in 1994 as a truck driver; he and his wife, Naomi also owned and operated geriatric foster care facilities in Grand Blanc. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and most of all playing with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his children, Brenda Hutchinson of Grand Blanc and Debra Phillips of Linden; grandchildren, Noel, Andrea, Elizabeth, Michael, Scott, Lyric (Michael), Daniel, Tammy, Jeff, Diana (Drew), Rachel, Samantha (Josh), Tiffany (Frank), Telisa, Terry (Michelle), and Jeremy; 30 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Michael and Alan; daughters, Judy and Kaye; brothers, Louis, Robert, Richard, and William; sisters, Lorraine, Ruth, and Betty. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
