George Morey, Jr.

August 10, 1946 — September 29, 2019

MOREY, George Wesley - age 73 of Fenton, passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father while surrounded by his wife and daughters at home on September 29, 2019,.  A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Home, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. The family will receive friends from 11am until 1pm. Officiating the service will be George’s brother, Kirk Morey. Internment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. George was born August 10, 1946 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of George Wesley Sr. and Mary Ellen Morey (née Price). He married Charlotte Morey (née Tabor), on August 23, 1968 in Ferndale, Mi. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. George graduated from Ferndale High School in 1964. He was an exceptional athlete playing baseball, football, and basketball throughout high school and helped the Ferndale basketball team win a State Championship in 1963. George was also an avid golfer, but more than anything he loved watching his daughters play their sports and he tried never to miss a game. As time moved on, he enjoyed taking his family to watch baseball at Tiger Stadium. After high school, George answered the call of duty by joining the Army and serving in Vietnam. Once out of the service, George joined the Ferndale Fire Department and retired after 35 years of service. His family moved to Fenton in 1989 and fell in love with the community. George was a man that walked the walk. His life motto was God, country, family. He read his bible faithfully every morning and prayed. He loved people. He liked to talk and listen and be a good friend. His outlook was always positive and he never gave up hope. He was kind, gentle and humble yet possessed great inner strength and integrity. And date night with his wife was a cherished time he truly looked forward to. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family. Surviving are his wife Charlotte, his daughters Charlotte Ann Morey, Andrea Elizabeth Morey, Carlie Catherine (Josh) Broyles and Abigail Lynn (Troy) Tomasky.  George was also “Bumpa” to six grandchildren who he adored including Charlotte Ann Hatfield, Victoria Margaret Hatfield, Olivia Alden Taffs, Sarah Elizabeth Taffs , Madeline Louise Broyles and Brodie George Broyles. Also his brothers Myron (Mike) and wife Diana Morey of Phoenix, Az., Gordon (Tom) and wife Nancy Morey of Auburn Hills, Mi., and Kirk and Cathy Morey of Sarasota, Fla.  Preceded in death were George’s parents and his sister Linda Faye Stenback, wife of Robert Stenback of Oak Park, Mi.
I’ll always love you, honey.  Walk slowly.
