KARAS, George W. - Age 86, of Grand Blanc, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be held 1PM Friday, September 8, 2006 at the Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd, Grand Blanc Twp., with Pastor Dean G. Dumbrille officiating. Â Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery with military graveside services under the auspices of Fenton VFW Post #3243. Visitation will be held 2-5 and 7-9PM Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to Grand Blanc Fund of the Community Foundation. Mr. Karas was born on February 19, 1920 in Durand the son of Peter and Edmere (Merchant) Karas and had lived in Grand Blanc since 1954. He married Helen 'Jean' Price in Burton on September 5, 1939. Mr. Karas was a 1939 graduate of Bendle High School. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He worked for General Motors at Buick Motor Division and after leaving Buick he owned George's Grand Bar. Mr. Karas built and operated Fireside Lounge with his partner and later built and operated The Karasel Restaurant and Lounge for many years. Mr. Karas then started Karas Industrial Sales and operated it until his retirement. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Jean; 2 sons, Dennis and wife Claudia Karas of Grand Blanc, George H. and wife Xio Dan Karas of Walker, MI; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Robert, Benjamin, Stephen, James, Maria and Helen; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, Bill Karas of Flushing. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James W. Karas. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Walker II and all of the Doctors and staff at Genesys Health Park.
