George Harris JONES

JONES, George Harris - Age 79, of Flint, died at home, Sunday, July 5, 2009. Mr. Jones was born September 26, 1929 in McRae, Arkansas, the son of William and Sally (Stanley) Jones. He had lived in the Flint area for 46 years. He married Connie Santoro in Boston, MA on November 29, 1951. George retired from General Motors V-8 Engine plant in 1987 after 18 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a life member and past commander of the Swartz Creek V.F.W. Post 3720. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Surviving are his wife, Connie; his 3 daughters, Donna Baynai and husband Rev. Michael of Grand Rapids, Rhonda Ureche of Linden and special friend Fred Tafoya of Flint and Cheryl Scott and husband David of Fenton. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Rd. Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Rev. Michael Baynai will officiate. Inurnment of cremated remains will follow at 12:30 P.M. at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. to receive visitors. Memorial gifts in his name may be made to the McLaren Hospice/Visiting Nurses Association.
