Jaksa, George Anthony died March 31, 2023, at age 94 after a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Fr. Thomas Firestone at 11 AM Wednesday, April 5 at St John Vianney Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM followed by a Knights of Columbus memorial service. Visitation will also be at 10 AM until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made in George’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
George was born June 23, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, the 8th of 9 children born to John and Amelia Jaksa. A lifelong resident of the greater flint area, he attended Grand Blanc High School where he graduated in 1946 and Michigan State University, graduating with a degree in Journalism in 1950. He also served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. George married Esther Marie (Delaney) Jaksa, April 18, 1953, in Flint, MI. George was best known in the greater-Flint area as a journalist working for news outlets such as The Lansing State Journal, WJRT TV-12, WXYZ Channel 7 in Detroit, The Catholic Weekly, and The Flint Journal, where he retired from in 2008. He was also actively involved with The Knights of Columbus, serving Council 695 in Flint and the State of Michigan K of C as their Director of Public Relations.
George is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann (Mark) Johnson of Flushing, MI; son Dr. Joseph Jaksa (Fiancé, Dr. Anne Tapp of Saginaw Twp. and daughters Sarah and Emma) of Birch Run, MI. In addition, he leaves behind three grandchildren, Joseph Johnson of Flushing, MI, Jane Jaksa of Flushing, MI, and Samuel Jaksa of Providence, RI., along with brother Dr. James Jaksa of Portage, MI., in addition to several nieces and nephews.
