HAWK, George C., age 91, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Durand Convalescent Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12PM Wednesday at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 7563 Mary St., Swartz Creek. Fr. Steve Mattson celebrant. Interment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 6-8PM Monday and 1-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with a vigil service at 7PM Tuesday followed by a rosary at 7:30PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Social Services. George was born August 20, 1916 in New Castle, Indiana the son of the late Dennis H. and Sabina I. (Hartman) Hawk. George was employed by General Motors, Fisher #1 as a Die and Fixture Checker for 45 1/2 years until retirement in 1980. He graduated from Mott College in 1965 with his son, Dennis, both achieving their Associates Degree in Technology. George was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels, Knights of Columbus, Vehicle City Harmonica Club, UAW Local #598, and the Genesee Valley Tennis Club. George loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, tennis, gardening and traveling. Surviving are his 5 children, Janice Kalfs (Tom) of E. Tawas, Dorothy Peppin (Jim) of Flint, Dennis Hawk (Jill) of Linden, Linda Myrant (Robert) of E. Tawas, Lorraine Bollinger (Jack) of Durand; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Doug Kalfs; 2 great-grandsons, Evan Kalfs and Joseph Alexander; brother, James Hawk.
