George Marshall GIBBONS

August 28, 1927 — July 29, 2010

GIBBONS, George Marshall - age 82, of Flint, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Genesys Health Park. Services will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Home, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint with Pastor John Grantham officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A Masonic memorial will be held 6:30 PM Friday and visitation will be held 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to Shriners Children's Hospital. Mr. Gibbons was born August 28, 1927 in Kennett, MO, the son of R.A. and Carrie (Taylor) Gibbons. He has resided in Grand Blanc since 1963 coming from Kennett, MO. Mr. Gibbons was a veteran of the U.S. Air force serving from 1945-1946. He married Mary Lorene McCarley and she preceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Gibbons owned and operated Kennett Tin and Sheet Metal Heating and Cooling for 11 years. He retired from General Motors in 1990, having worked at Fisher Body #1 for 23.5 years. He had also worked at Friener Sheet Metal in Newark, OH and Saginaw Steering Gear. Mr. Gibbons was a life member of Fellowship Lodge #490 F. & A.M. where he was Worshipful Master in 2004 and 2007. He was a member of the Bay City Consistory, Elf Kurafeh Shrine Center, Morning Star Lodge #556, and The Tinnie Lizzie Unit and belonged to 4 of the 5 area shrine clubs (Davison, Flint, Fenton and Circus Park). Surviving are: children, Yvonne (Ed) Hendriksen of Flushing, Thomas (Shirley) Gibbons of Flint, Brenda (Dave) Standen of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Jeff (Kathy) Humphrey of Flint, Kristy Lynn LeMay of Grand Blanc, Robert LeMay IV of Grand Blanc, and Robert Jackson of Flint; sister, Betty (Willie) Johnson of Davenport, FL; sister-in-law, Eulene (Carol) Bridges of St. Louis, MO; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Loreli Keene of Flint. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lorene Gibbons; father, Rufus A. Gibbons, mother, Carrie Taylor Gibbons, brother, E.R. Gibbons; three sisters, Altha Mae Masterson, Bessie B.
