George Merritt Finch Jr age 76 of Flint Twp. received his wings on December 7, 2020. George was born on March 7, 1944 in Mt Pleasant MI, the son of George Merritt Sr and Virginia (Horton) Finch. He married his beloved wife Betty Jo Miller his only true love of nearly 60 years on October 19, 1962. George is survived by wife Betty, children: Kelly (Gina) Finch of Scottsdale, AZ, Steve (Ricci) Finch of Flint Twp. MI, Scott Finch of Davison MI, Karry (R.S.) Wynn of Flint, MI. 8 Grandchildren: Amber, Christopher, Gibson, Ashlie, Anthony, Angelica, Jesika and Tyler. He was also a special extended father to Tanya and Nicole Carriere. George is survived by his three brothers James (Gayle) Finch of Chelsea, MI, Tom (Shirley) Finch Huntsville, AL, Rick (Sherry) Finch of Malone, NY as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. George retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Upon retiring from GM, he went to work for Flint Township as an ordinance and code enforcer, retiring after 10 years. Lastly, George went to work for Flint Public Schools where he was an assistant athletic director at Southwestern Academy. He also worked with Mott Community College, Northern High School, and Central High school where he became a friend and mentor to all in the Flint community. He spent countless hours making sure the kids of Flint Schools had what they needed for both learning and athletics, often reaching into his own pockets to cover any shortfalls. Holidays and family get togethers were a huge part of George’s life and were always open to anyone who was hungry, lonely, or just wanted to hang out with no questions asked. He kept a smile and a gracious demeanor that made everyone feel loved and welcome. George was preceded in death by his father George Merritt Finch Sr, Mother Virginia Finch, brother Victor A. Finch, sister Barbara Finch and Special friend Bob Albee. Services will be held at Sharp Funeral home at 8138 Miller Rd Swartz Creek MI 48473, with public visitation on December 15, 2020 from 2:00PM-8:00PM. A family only service will be held December 16, 2020 at 11:00AM, which will be conducted by Deacon Steven Maas, of the St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church. A second service will be held on Monday December 21st at Stephenson Wyman Funeral home in Clare, Mi 4817, with family hour at 11am and service directly following. In Lieu of flowers all contributions can be made to Mr. Finch’s Athletic Fund.
