George Cookingham Jr.

June 30, 1930 — August 20, 2018

COOKINGHAM, George Martin Jr. - Age 88, of Flushing, died August 20, 2018. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Rd., Swartz Creek. Fr. Louis Ekka, Celebrant. A luncheon will be held immediately following mass in the church basement. Burial will be at 2:30 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will take place at 10 AM Friday October 19 until time of Mass at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Veterans Hospital in Saginaw or Charity of One's Choice. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. George was born June 30, 1930 the son of George Martin and Mary (DeCamp) Cookingham Sr. He married Helen Geraldine Spodney in Flushing on January 17, 1953. George proudly served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was employed as a Tool Engineer with Buick for 38 years. George was a member of the American Legion Post in Flushing. Surviving are : Wife of 65 years, Helen; Children, Connie (Ted) Hawkshaw, and Robert (Julie) Cookingham; 5 grandchildren, Michelle (Travis), Kristina (Gerald), Michael (Ashley}, Robert II (Elizabeth), Megan (Matt); 12 great grandchildren; Brother, Gordon "Mike" (JoAnn) Cookingham; Sister-n-law, Carol Spodney and numerous nieces & nephews. Special thank you to Dr. Abdulfatah A. Osman, MD; The Medical Team Hospice, especially Charles Leach; and the staff at The Oaks of Woodfield, thank you Chase Gibson for your help in the final hours.
