CARTER, George Thomas (GT) -- Age 73, husband of Darleen Carter, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday evening, May 18, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Road, Pastor Kevin Harbin officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date for the immediate family. GT was born March 8, 1941 in Flint, Michigan, and was the son of the late William and Imogene Carter. Being one of the original 99ers of Saturn, he was a retired GM employee of 42 years. His passion was golfing, especially enjoying playing at Dixie Oaks in Summertown. He was a lifelong sports fan, and also loved woodworking and traveling. Along with his wife Darleen (Gould). GT is survived by his daughters: Kathy (Jim) Momany, Carolyn (Tony) Totzke, and Sarah (Fernando) Carvalho; sons: Daniel (Kathey) Carter, and John (Michelle) Kenley; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; brothers: Frank (Delores) Carter, Ed (Donna) Carter, and Robert (Cherie) Carter; sister: Margaret (Robert) Craton; He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sherry Glazier, his parents, and his brothers Bill Carter and Fred Carter, and his grandson Jamie Nance.
