SULLIVAN, Genevieve Marie -- of Flushing, died May 30, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Friday, June 3 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Thursday, and 10 AM until the time of the funeral Friday. Genevieve was born July 25, 1920 in Bay City the daughter of Ernest and Bessie Louise (Crawford) Seymour. She was married to John L. "Jack" Sullivan in 1942 in Flint; he preceded her in death in 1979. She was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and earned her Bachelors Degree in Education and Master Degree in Guidance Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. Twenty-nine years of her life was involved in teaching and working with children, which was her greatest love. She also enjoyed world travel and reading. She was a member of the NEA, MEA, and National Democratic Party. She was a very involved political activist in local, state and national politics. For twelve years she and her husband acted as host family for students and teachers from around the world. After retirement, she taught Adult Education in Flushing and worked as a mentor in elementary schools. She was a strong believer in the principles of the Unity denomination. Surviving are: son Gary Jack Sullivan of Flushing; granddaughter Ashley Sullivan of Flint; favorite niece Norma Roberts of Grand Blanc; special friends; and nieces an nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister Viberta Roberts; brother Monroe Seymour; and special friend of many years Ray Long.
