MILLER, Gene David, a longtime resident of Flint, Michigan, died in the evening of Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. Services will be held 6:00PM Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Deacon Ron Kenney officiating. The family will receive friends 4:00PM Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home. An additional celebration of Gene's life will be held 6-8PM Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, 2149 N. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48506. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Flint River Watershed Coalition, 432 N. Saginaw St., Flint, MI 48502. Gene worked for several years at Fisher Body, owned GM Construction Company, and Hickory Vic's Bar and Grill in Bridgeport, Michigan. He was Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Gene enjoyed traveling the United States as a child and an adult and remembered fondly the time he spent in Denver, CO. He is survived by his mother, Jan Smotucha Morris of Dillon South Carolina, two daughters, Kerrilyn Miller and Renee Miller Zientek, two grandchildren, Maggie Zientek and Quincy Zientek and many, many friends. Gene was an avid billiards player, a member of the American Pool Association, and known in multiple leagues across the region. Gene was interested in local and national politics. He believed that people are responsible for changing the things in life that they know to be wrong. He loved the Flint River and enjoyed canoeing and riding his bike on the Flint River Trail. Gene loved his family and friends deeply. His philosophy, To have a friend, you have to be a friend, will be remembered by all of those he called friend.
