Gale was born June 21, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Phillip A. Gilmer and Louise May (Miller) Troupe. Gale attended Flint Southwestern High School and Baker Business College. She resided for many years in Palatine, Illinois where she raised her children with husband Ian Goldman. After Ian died in 2011, Gale returned to Michigan, eventually reuniting with high school sweetheart Bill Belcher.
Gale was a loving mother and grandmother, sister, and aunt. She had a sweet and sensitive nature and was committed to social justice. She loved all animals and especially cats, dogs, and horses. She learned to ride in later life and enjoyed taking care of her horse. Gale was an avid collector of dolls and doll houses, as well as curios and collectibles of all sorts. She was a passionate fan of the Beatles, the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago Cubs, and enjoyed watching golf, old movies, and TV shows. Other pastimes included reading, gardening, and assembling miniature houses. Gale had a spirit of adventure and loved traveling, amusement parks and high adrenaline activities like zip-lining.
Gale went into rehab in 2014 and maintained sobriety for the rest of her life. Along the way, she became a person of faith which brought her solace as her body succumbed to cancer.
Gale will be deeply missed by her partner Bill Belcher, sons Philip (Granneta) Taylor, Jonathon (Doris) Goldman and Ryan (Stephane) Goldman; grandchildren Ian Goldman, Dominic Goldman, Austin Goldman and Gabriell Balatero; siblings Mart (Winnie) Gilmer, Boak (Debbie) Gilmer, Toni (Jerry DeVries) Perrine, Kelly (Vern) Freer, Paul (Cindy) Gilmer, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
