SHALTZ, Frederick Joseph, Jr. - Age 86, of Fenton, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial following the service in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Fenton. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-7 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton and at the church Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home Tuesday at 6:45 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Knights of Columbus Fenton Council #7418.
Fred was born September 21, 1936, in Calumet, the son of Frederick J. Shaltz, Sr. and Veronica Roth. He was a 1954 graduate of St. Agnes Catholic High School, Flint; and he attended the University of Michigan. He married Judith A. Holmes July 6, 1956, in Flint and she preceded him in death September 20, 1999. He resided in Genesee County all his life. Fred was one of the founders and owner of Delta Land Surveying and Engineering, Inc and Delta Aerial Photography. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Fenton Council #7418, Double X Club, Linden Sportsmen Club and The Hundred Club of Flint and was one of the founders of the Fenton Township Service Club. He was appointed by the Chairman of the Genesee County Commissioner to the following boards: Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, Human Resources Department, City of Flint Planning Commission (Chairman), Genesee County Road Commission, Genesee County Board of Commissioners (Chairman), Building Authority Commission, Building and Grounds Department, Community Health Services, Environmental Health Services, Personal Health Services, Community Corrections, Community Mental Health Services, Office of Equity and Diversity, Parks and Recreation Commission (Chairman), Animal Control Department, Equalization Department, Genesee Regional Chamber, Jury Commission, and appointed to the Bishop International Airport Security by the Bishop Airport Board. He was a lifetime member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors. Governor Blanchard also appointed Fred to the State Board of Regulations for Architects, Engineers, and Surveyors.
Surviving are: his sons, Brent (Kim Markee) Shaltz of Waterford, Brian (Stephanie) Shaltz of Fenton, Fred Shaltz III of Fenton and; daughter-in-law, Katy Shaltz of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Brad Shaltz, Jr. (Samantha) of North Carolina, Chad Shaltz (Melissa) of North Carolina, Rachel Pierson of Fenton, Tait Shaltz of Fenton, Jonathan Markee of Indiana, and great grandchildren, Paris, Noah (Jaden), Alex, Sabrina, Melissa, Hunter, Skylar, Cannon and Austin; brother, Phil (Ardele) Shaltz of Fenton; nieces, Elizabeth (Jeff) Goyette, Carrie Haslup (Ben); nephews, Bret and Daniel Butterfield, Jason (Annie) Shaltz, and great nieces and nephews; Daphne Haslup, Daisy Shaltz, and Wesley Shaltz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Veronica Shaltz; sons, Brad Shaltz and Brandon Shaltz; sister, Arlene Butterfield, and Delta Land Surveying and Engineering founding member, Herman Bateman. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
