Frederick John GILBERT

March 31, 1927 — August 17, 2010

GILBERT, Frederick John -- Age 83, formerly of Durand, went to be with his Lord Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Crestmont Healthcare Facility after being diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. Services will be 11 AM Saturday, August 21 at Faith Missionary Church, 1327 N. Elms Rd., with Rev. Tom Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek; and 10 AM until time of service Saturday at church. Those desiring may make contributions to Faith Missionary Church or Brown City Camp. Mr. Gilbert was born March 31, 1927 in Swartz Creek the son of Rutherford B. Hayes Gilbert and Edna Pearl (Hilliker) Gilbert. He married Jacqueline Bradford on February 20, 1957. He worked for Simplicity Engineering for over 30 years. Mr. Gilbert was a member of Faith Missionary Church and volunteered at Brown City Missionary Camp. Surviving are: daughter Patricia and husband Roy Hammond of Flint Township; son Rev. Michael Gilbert and wife Cindy of Indiana; son-in-law Tim Colton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Georgie; brother-in-law Ron Bradford and wife Barbara of Indiana; sister-in-law Juanita and husband Don Ely. He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie; his parents; son William; daughter Sherry Colton; and siblings. Millie Nelson, Nonie Gurica, Grace Colvin, Elaine Koleman, Arlene Perry, and Wayne Gilbert. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Crestmont Healthcare Facility and Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion.
