RADEMACHER, Fred "Fritz"-- Age 83, of Flushing, died peacefully at home with his family while watching his MSU Spartans qualify for the Sweet 16 on March 22, 2015. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 PM Friday March 27 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint; Fr. Tom Firestone, Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church from 3-8 PM Thursday where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM .There will also be a visitation at 12 PM until the time of the service Friday. Interment will take place on Monday, March 30, 11:30 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Fred was born November 20, 1931 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Frederick W. and Ruth Catherine (Burdick) Rademacher. He married Joan M. Gager in Lansing on December 28, 1957. Fritz was well respected, committed to his family, friends, and education and most certainly to his faith. He graduated from Resurrection High School in 1949. A Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during the Korean War, Fritz graduated from Michigan State University in 1959. He relocated to Flint in 1964 as a teacher and a football coach at Holy Redeemer. With the opening of Powers Catholic in 1970, Fred was named the first varsity football coach, leading the Chargers for eight successful seasons. In 1992, Coach Fred Rademacher retired after years of dedicated service to catholic education and athletics. In 2011 Fritz was inducted into the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame, an honor reserved only for the very best. In addition, he was a founding member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association and an inaugural inductee into its Coaches Hall of Fame. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years Joan M. of Flushing; children, Karen (Steve) Gonnella of Brooklyn Park MN, Carol Rademacher (longtime companion Lee Hildreth) of Gaines, Nancy (Scott) Smith of Eldersburg, MD, Fred (Teresa) Rademacher of Kentwood; grandchildren, Amanda, Caitlin, Emily, Catherine, Taylor, Travis; great grandchildren, Annabelle and Emilia. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant children, Edward and Mary; brother, Thomas; sisters, MaryEllen and Patricia. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
