Frankie was born at the Flint Women's Hospital to Edward and Adeline Weiss. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1944 and continued her education at Hurley School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. She continued her education at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, becoming a Cadet Nurse from 1944-1946, during World War II. Paul Lape married Frankie Weiss on New Years Day, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Frankie worked as a RN at Hurley and McLaren Hospitals, then for Drs. Antell, Stroup and Fan. Her final career move was to Michigan School for the Deaf. There she managed the Pediatric Health Center for 20 years. During her nursing career she cared for the victims of the 1952 Beecher Tornado and numerous polio patients in iron lungs. Frankie was very active with her Hurley School of Nursing Alumni Association, serving as president for many years. She was a charter member of King of Glory Lutheran Church, volunteering for several committees throughout the years. She was active in the Ladies Shrine Club, and was a member of the Saharem Oriental Band, playing the base drum for concerts, parades and ice cream socials. Frankie also did volunteer work for C.A.R.E., the Humane Society and the Krapohl Senior Center. She was an avid Michigan football fan, needle pointer and novel reader. Frankie loved to laugh, and always had a new joke or story to tell. She was a strong, assertive, independent woman, who easily made and kept friends. We all loved her dearly and will miss her. Frankie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, son Bruce and sisters, Bertie Tautenhahn and Loretta Gray, plus special cousins Bill Lape and Papa Dick Juengel. Frankie is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Paul and Dianna Lape; grandsons Matthew and Adam (Nicole); grandchildren Marcelle and Levi; special cousins Susie Lape and Warren (Sandy) Juengel. A special thank you to the Medical Team Staff based at Lockwood of Fenton for the compassionate, loving care provided for Frankie over the past four years. Kudos to the Lockwood Staff for providing a safe, nurturing environment for seniors. Praise and honor to the Medical Team Hospice Staff for their care and support of Frankie and the family over the past 3 months. A thank you to Northview Medical House Calls and Tom Plamondon, P.A.-C for his competent, professional care. And finally, a special thank you to Pastor Joyce from King of Glory Lutheran Church; for the spiritual support and friendship that she provided Frankie throughout the years. It takes a comprehensive team to care for a senior, and the above team provided Frankie an environment in which she could flourish in her last years of life.
