OCEDEK, Frances Louise ( Brezina) -- Age 96, of Swartz Creek, died August 27, 2019. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday August 31 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint. Father Robert Copeland Celebrant. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Friday. Visitation will also be 10 AM until time of Mass at the church on Saturday. Those desiring my make contributions to Alzheimer 's Association or Charity of Ones Choice. Frances was born July 24, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Frances (Heinz) and Louis Brezina. She married Martin Ocedek on August 29, 1942 in Swartz Creek, Michigan. They both were active members of Swartz Creek Czech Friendship Club for many years and charter members of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Martin preceded her in death February 18, 2010 after 68 years of marriage. Frances was a licensed beautician, a meticulous housekeeper and homemaker, a volunteer at McLaren Hospital and a conscientious clerk at Smith Bridgman's and Sear's department stores. Over years she created hundreds of special greeting cards embellished with her hand made tatted flowers in which she wrote heartfelt messages for friends and family. Frances also participated in craft shows with her unique handcrafted angels, but the real angels in her life were her grand children and great grandchildren. For them she wrote her life story beginning with her parent's immigration from Czechoslovakia to the United States, which is a touching personal glimpse into the era in which she lived. Frances had a positive outlook on life, an independent spirit and never missed an opportunity to enjoy every minute of her time with friends and family.Frances is survived by her 2 children, Martha (Randy) Voto and Martin (Debbie) Ocedek, both of Swartz Creek. She has 4 grand children, Robert (Dena) Voto of Clarkston, Marsha (Timothy) Kessler of Swartz Creek, Andrew (Brooke) Voto of Waterford, Christopher (Jennifer) Ocedek of Portage, and 9 great grand children, Joseph, Benjamin and Margaret Kessler, Anna, Allison and Nicole Voto, Sophia, Connor and Carter Ocedek of Portage. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Brezina; sister, Helen Dedic; brother, Jerry Brezina; 1 grandchild, Matthew Ocedek and her husband Martin. The family wishes to thank all of the professionals and aides for their loving care and friendship received from Kindred Hospice, Caretel Inns of Linden as well as many friends she made living at Woodhaven Senior Community for 13 years.
