TAUBITZ, Fr. Leo Anthony - age 86, of Gaines, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Caretel Inns of Linden where he resided since 2012. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, 210 N Front St, Dowagiac, MI with Most Reverend Paul J. Bradley, Bishop of Diocese of Kalamazoo and concelebrating priests. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Gaines, MI. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Tuesday at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Tuesday evening. Fr. Taubitz was born April 25, 1930 in Flint, MI, the son of Charles A. and Anna M. (Allan) Taubitz . He was a graduate of St. Matthew Catholic School in Flint, Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, and St. John in Plymouth . He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Lansing on June 2, 1956 and began his service to God and the people with his first mass at the old St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gaines. Later he became a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo where he served his last and longest assignment at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church in Dowagiac, MI. Fr.
