Florence "Flo" Walling

Florence "Flo" M. Walling, age 95, life-long resident of Flushing, passed away at her home Sunday, September 1, 2024. Visitation will be held 5pm - 8pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Home - Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road in Swartz Creek. The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Home - Miller Road Chapel. Flo will be laid to rest next to her late husband at Flushing City Cemetery. Flo was born on March 4, 1929 to the late John & Mattie Hautala in Flushing, Michigan. She graduated from Flushing High School, class of 1947. At the age of 18 Flo entered a drawing of hers to a magazine competition. She won that competition and from that moment on she worked at developing her artistry - Pastel Painting in particular. Art was something that felt very natural from the start, but Flo still diligently perfected her skill till her dying day. 

Flo was the quintessential mother. Moreover, she kept a birthday calendar and never missed such an acknowledgement to a family member or friend. 

Flo is a life-time member to Trinity Baptist Church in Flushing. The last several years where difficult for her to attend in person so she watched services from her house. She also served as past president of the Home Builders Association / Flint Auxiliary. She volunteered at local senior centers teaching art classes. 

Flo married Darwin November 27, 1948, and together they were blessed with their 7 children. Flo enjoyed reading, flower gardening and entertaining family the holidays. Once the children left home Flo had many travels which consisted of a African Safari, Alaska for hunting and Germany. 

She is survived by her children, Mark (Barbara) Walling, Lisa (Dan) Davidson, Leslie (Susan) Walling, Brenda Barkclay and Wade Walling; 12 grandchildren, Chad, Grant, Leslie, Becky, Mandy, Danny, Jay, Dr. Caryl, Jacob, Ryan, Samantha and Joshua; 8 great-grandchildren;  daughter-in-law, Teresa Walling. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, her husband Darwin Walling; and two sons, Bryan and Randall.
