Florence May HARRIS

HARRIS, Florence May - age 108, of Fenton, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Caretel Inns of Linden. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, September 7, 2012 at Caretel Inns of Linden, 202 S. Bridge St., Linden in the VanGogh Dining Room. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Michigan Humane Society or Tyrone Covenant Presbyterian Church. May was born September 17, 1903 in Cape Town, South Africa. She grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland before moving to Detroit in 1913. Quitting school after the eighth grade, May became a messenger girl for Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, working her way up to cost clerk. She married Carl Harris in Detroit and he preceded her in death in 1959. She lived in Detroit area until 1998 when she moved to Royal Oak, living on her own until she was 104. She contributed her longevity to walking, climbing stairs and a positive attitude to May "attitude was everything". May had recently been involved in a longevity study in California. She is survived by several great-nieces and nephews. Arrangements were entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton.
