Florence Christensen

CHRISTENSEN, Florence - Age 92, of Flint formerly of Flushing, died Tuesday October 16, 2018. Funeral services will be held 1PM Tuesday, October 23, at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Visitation will be held 11AM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Hurley Children's Center or Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. Florence was born October 29, 1925 in Hancock, Michigan the daughter of the late Sidney and Alice (Gatley) Stocker. After moving to Flint Florence worked for a local eye doctor until World WAR II, which gave her the opportunity to work at General Motors AC plant as a Rosie Riveter, where she met the love of her life Eugene Christensen. She married Eugene on February 15, 1947 in Flint and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2016. Florence was a volunteer for Hurley Hospital for many years and was the president of the Hurley Auxiliary of crocheting and sewing group making booties, hats, blankets and toys for newborn babies and children for the hospital. She was also a member and volunteer of several local Methodist churches including Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, Swartz Creek, where she cooked for funeral dinners, made pasties and organized rummage sales. With her husband Eugene she volunteered at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Florence for many years was a member of the Red Hat Society. Surviving are: daughter, Nancy Hager of Flushing; grandchildren, Amie, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rachel; great grandchildren, Kyle Travis, Samantha, Joshua, Alex, Sean, Emma; great great grandson, Elijah. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Neil Christensen in 2016 and several brothers and sisters.
