Satkowiak, Eugene F. - Age 76, of Gaines, died February 22, 2016 in Florida. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, February 27 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek, Fr. Louis Ekka celebrant. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Friday, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek; and 10-11 AM Saturday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions in lieu of flowers to Tidewell Hospice or St. Mary Church. Eugene was born April 22, 1939 in Bay City the son of Matthew and Sophie (Janowicz) Satkowiak. He moved to Gaines in 1962 where he and his wife established and raised their family at Maple Leaf Farms. He was a 1957 graduate of Grand Blanc High School, where he was a student athlete and remained involved in athletics with his children. He married his high school sweetheart Jean Litten on April 22, 1961. They have spent the past 54 years together. Over the past 8 years they have enjoyed wintering in Venice FL with friends. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He has been a self employed dairy and crop farmer his entire life, establishing Maple Leaf Farms and Maple Leaf Environmental. He received the Michigan State Senate Resolution No 448 honoring him as outstanding Conservation Farmer of Genesee Soil Conservation District 1979. He was a member of the Genesee County Farm Bureau, Argentine Zoning Board, the Michigan Corn Growers Association, and Dom Polski. His favorite time was when the house would be filled with family and polka music. He is survived by his wife Jean; five children and their families, Roger (Sally) - Nicholas and Maija; Tami (Erik) - Mallory and Grant; Jeff (Rachel) - Corey (Pam), Kendra (Brian), Jacob, Alyssa, Hanna, Caleb, and Cole; Katie (Chad) - Hana, Haley, and Madison; Kevin (Amy) - Shelby and Darcy; sisters, Violet Winter, Marcia (Barry) Wheeler, Diane (Don) Kasprzyk; brother, Harry (Kay); brothers-in-law, Jerry and Charlee Litten, Paul and Kandace Litten, and Phil Kamyszek; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gerald; sister Elaine Kamyszek; and brother-in-law Richard Winter.
