Eugene L. KESSLER

Eugene L. Kessler "Gene" - Age 83 of Fenton / Linden, passed away January 7, 2014 at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI. Services will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad Street, Linden. Pastor Dean Dumbrille will officiate. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday and 11 AM-1PM Saturday. Graveside service will be held 10:30 AM Monday at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. In lieu of flowers the family ask that a memorial contribution to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and/or American Red Cross with your blood donation be made in the memory of Gene. Additional information is available at the funeral home. Gene was born October 13, 1930 in Pinconning, MI to Raymond P. and Hulda (Streich) Kessler. Graduated from Dye High School in 1949. He served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954 with some of his fondest memories. Employed at Fisher Body as a tool and die journeyman / supervisor, he retired from the V8 truck plant in Flint, MI in 1984. During his time off he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Michigan and Canada. In retirement he enjoyed watching football, boxing and old western movies as well as attending flea markets. His vast knowledge of history lead him to become a well respected historian of geographic and antiques, as he enjoyed sharing that knowledge with many others. He is also remembered as a jack of all trades. With a loyal Lutheran faith throughout his life, becoming a member of the Trinity Lutheran church. A kind, loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather and great grand father known as "Papa Gene". He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survived by (son) Michael, (daughter) Cynthia and her daughters, Corissa and Brianna. (son) Steven and wife Kathy, his children, Keven, Rosie and their son Coleton, (son) David, his children, DJ, Amanda, Ben and Alex, 2 Great grand children, Jaylon and Carmen, (brother) Victor and wife Jeanne Kessler (sister-in-law) Loretta Kessler and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 54 years, Patsy, E. (aunt) Lorena Kessler / Sister M. Gwendolyn (brother) Melvin Kessler and (sister) Elaine (Rye) Kessler.
