ROSS, Ernest Arthur, age 95, of Swartz Creek, died on Sunday, December 17, 2023. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 5, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, 4494 N. Linden Road, Flint MI 48504. Pastor Walt Rose will preside with burial following in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will take place 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek and again from 10:00 AM until the time of the service Friday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to the family discretionary fund.
Ernest was born on October 15, 1928 in Lincoln, MI the son of the late Willis and Emily (Rifenbark) Ross. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Ernest and Mary Owen were united in marriage on March 6, 1953 in Flint. Sadly, she preceded him in death on September 5, 2021. He worked in construction after the Army before his career at GM Parts for several years before his retirement in 1991. Ernest was a longtime member of the former Maranatha Baptist Church and lastly a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with is grandchildren and great grandchildren, volunteering with his church and loved building and crafting.
He is survived by his children; Russell (Julie) Ross of Clio, Randall (Kathryn) Ross of Bad Axe, Leora (Skip) Moyer of Kathleen, GA., Jeffrey (Gemma) Ross, of Wetumpka, Al.; 10 grandchildren, Travis Ross of Bad Axe, Briynne (James) McCrea of Bad Axe, Trenton (Sarah) Ross of Ohio, Erin (Aaron) Burden of Maryland, Jeremy (Jessica) Ross of Tennessee, Micha (Carrie) Moyer of South Carolina, Sarina (John) Wood of South Carolina, Catie (Andrew) Hane of South Carolina, Caleb (Hanne) Moyer of Wisconsin and Jathen (Meetra) Moyer of South Carolina; 15 great grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Shepard and Roseann (Dennis) Johnson.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Ernest was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl, Jim, Barbara Sluder and Wanda Wakeman. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
