FICK, Ernest Donald Ernie - Of Swartz Creek died Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center at the age of 85. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Emil Haering officiating. Private interment service will be held at Bristol Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 2-5 and 6-9 PM Monday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, or the Swartz Creek Historical Society. Born April 18, 1919 in Swartz Creek, the son of Charles Fick and Minnie (Kranz) Fick, he spent most of his life in Swartz Creek. After graduating from Swartz Creek High School in 1938, he attended and graduated from Baker Business College.  He was employed as a Supervisor for General Motors and retired in 1972. On March 15, 1941, he married Margaret May Larobardiere, who became an elementary teacher in the Swartz Creek Schools. Ernest and Margaret were life-long members of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. In high school, Ernest loved to play sports. He was a member of the 4-H Club and at the Detroit 5th Annual 4-H Junior Livestock Show in 1934, he won first place for his grand champion steer. He won many other awards as a member of the 4-H Club. Ernest loved to hunt, garden, and travel. His travels took him to Mexico, the Caribbean, and most of Europe. He was an avid bird-watcher and nature lover. Surviving are: wife, Margaret; daughter, Sharon and husband, David Merritt; granddaughter, Tammy (David) Navarro; grandson, Scott Merritt (Susan Crandall); great-grandsons, David and Derek Navarro; niece, Shirley Hinterman; nephews, Charlie (Marilyn) Fick, Jack (Judy) Fick, and Miles (Mary Ann) Miller; brother-in-laws, Chuck (Frances) Larobardiere and Lyle (Donna) Larobardiere; and many close relatives. He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; sister, Helen; brothers, Nelson and John; several cousins and many friends.
