HARDENBURG, Elwood Rae - age 92 of Montrose, passed away on January 22, 2025. Cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest, with military honors, at 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elwood to the Hurley Medical Center - Burn Unit (www.hurleyfoundation.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.st.jude.org).
Elwood was born on November 12, 1932 in Lapeer, Michigan to the late Lewis and Lyla (Leathers) Hardenburg. He graduated from Dye High School and went on to proudly serve our country with the United States Marines. On August 24, 1953, Elwood married Jeanne Marie Apsey in Norfolk, Virginia. He retired in 1977 after 25 years of service as a Police Sergeant for the City of Flint.
Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Jeanne. Children, Lynn Sherman of Montrose; Wes (Kathleen) Hardenburg of Mt. Morris; Del (Brandy) Hardenburg of Montrose. Grandchildren, Lisa (Eric) Wanink; Ken (Kristen) Sherman; Amanda (Josh) Merry; Aiden Hardenburg. Great grandchildren, Matthew; Alison; Bailey; Isabelle. Sister, Judy (George) Bowren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hardenburg; and many nieces and nephews. Elwood was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ann Marie; Siblings, June; Lewis; Willis; Neil; Mavis; Audrey; Keith; Kay; Katie; Curtis.
