Elna "Nikki" Lynn Vert Thompson, age 77, of Flint, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring, Sharp Funeral Home is assisting the family. Nikki was born on November 26, 1945, in Flint, Michigan to the late Lewis (Dorothy) Thompson. She graduated from Clare High School in 1963. She continued her education at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw, Michigan where she received her nursing license in 1966. Nikki was employed as St. Mary Hospital 1966-1967 as a staff-charge nurse in the Pediatrics Unit. She also was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint 1967-1969 as a staff nurse in the Emergency Room and was Director of the Michigan Community Blood Center 19969-1970. During 1973-1974 Nikki worked at Crestmont Medical Care Facility as staff nurse7 house supervisor. She loved working at Camp O-Fair Winds & Timbers Girl Scout Camps from 1980-1983. In 1982-1986 she worked at Stanmarie (Argentine) Care as In Service Director, Infection Control Coordinator & assistant director of nursing. Next Nikki was employed at Heritage Manor Nursing Home from 1986-1987 as assistant Director of Nursing. Most recently, a nurse at Genesee County Mental Health 1987-2003.
Nikki was a Michigan girl through and through; she enjoyed the Upper Peninsula, visits to lighthouses and watching the freighters at Whitefish Point & St. Mary's River. Nikki took yearly trips with her mother to the Upper Peninsula until traveling became too difficult. Her best memories with her wife, Deb, were the yearly trips to Lowell, Michigan for a quaint bed & breakfast and day trips to Port Huron. She loved horses and all her furry companions, especially her cat, Pi.
She is survived by her loving wife, Deborah "Deb"; her children, Dorothy Vert-Hester, Melissa Kwaiser, Cindy (Jo) Williams-Fenn and Tami (David Mihelcic) Pocius; grandchildren, Jonathan (Samantha Turner) Vert and Brianna Pocius; great-grandchildren, Skylaer Janks and Simon Turner; brother-in-law, Russell "Joe" Kwaiser and sister-in-law, Pat Meyer and her many nieces and nephews. Nikki is further survived by her dear friends, Jack, Laurel, and Dave and many other dear family members and friends. Nikki was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis (Dorothy) Thompson.
