Our gracious and merciful Lord called Ellyn Serra home on January 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Her family has found comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering in her earthly body but is now made whole and at peace in her perfect heavenly body.
It is hard to capture the impact of the life Ellyn lived. Her vivacious energy and radiant personality and smile filled any room the moment she walked in. This energy captured the heart of her best friend, Micky, forty years ago. This friendship flourished over the years and allowed her to become an amazing mother and companion to her three daughters. Although she thrived as a mother, her most important and coveted role was Nana to the four grandchildren she cherished with all her heart. She was not only dedicated to her family but to excelling in the work force. Her drive grew her resume from an entry level position to becoming a vice president of operations. This is a position she was so proud to maintain until the final days of her cancer journey.
A final testament to the light she was is the incredible group of family and friends she was surrounded with and supported by throughout her entire life.
She is survived her loving husband Michael Serra, caring daughters Lauren Stewart (Jackson), Courtney Allison (Nathan), Delaney Mahaffy (Sean), loyal brother Paul McPherson, faithful mother Constance Maxim, and beloved grandchildren Jayce, Deklyn, Adalyn and Jaxon.
Her family would like to extend an invite to honor Ellyn’s life this Saturday, February 1st at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Visitation will be held at St. Nicholas located at 2143 S. Center Road in Burton from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed immediately by a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. In honoring Ellyn’s wishes and memorializing the light she was, there will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 8th with open house from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Oakley located at 11035 Fish Lake Road, Holly. There is dedicated time starting at 3:00 p.m. for family and anyone else who would like to share memories and stories. There will be lite food and refreshments available. To memorialize Ellyn’s love of gardening, in lieu of flower arrangements the family asks to send live plants or make a donation in her honor to the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation.
Her legacy will live on in the seeds she planted in everyone’s hearts and lives. “Come on chickadees, let’s fly!”
