Elliott Nelson

NELSON, Elliott James - Age 73, of Gaines, died Sunday, March 4, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Jim Nelson officiating. Burial in Byron Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 4-7 PM and Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Elliott was born July 18, 1944 in Flint, the son of William and Hazel (Cooper) Nelson. He married Marie Louise Strong February 14, 1987. He had resided in Gaines most of his life. He retired from GM Chevrolet Truck and Bus. Elliott was a member of the U.A.W. Local 598. Surviving are: his wife, Marie; 9 children, Darryl (Diana Strong) Nelson of Gaines, Brenda (Hector) Torres of Oregon, Alleine (Lance) Calhoun of Arkansas, Cathy (Lewis) Mattingly of North Carolina, Cheryl (John) Jovanovich of Oregon, Pamela (George) Anderson of Cedar Springs, Monica (Troy) Linden of Morenci, Angela Hovind of Davison, and Nellie Tricia (Kris) Klug of Howell; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother, William "Cliff" (Katherine) Nelson of Durand; sister, Josephine Margarite Martin of Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
