She was born on November 7, 1924 in Bannister, Michigan to Jerry Velat and Mary (Dostal) Velat and she was the second of five children. As a child, she was a member of a Czech dance group and a lifetime member of ZCBJ Lodge of Bannister. Elizabeth met the love of her life Stanley F. Nemecek at a dance in Edgewood Gardens (one of their favorite pastimes) and they were married on May 29, 1948 in Owosso, Michigan. Together they raised five children (Ray, Judy, Sharon, Lorraine, and Ken) in Flint. They were faithful parishioners at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton. Elizabeth had a very strong Catholic faith, attending church regularly and actively participating in the Daughters of Isabella (Regina Coeli Circle #1095) and the Holy Redeemer Council of Catholic Women. She especially enjoyed her puzzle days with her special friend Greg Gach on Wednesdays. She made sure that nothing got in the way of her weekly standing hair appointment. She also enjoyed time with family and church friends, traveling, and helping out with the annual CCW scrapbooking event.
She recently celebrated a milestone 100" birthday with a wonderful party with family and friends. Everyone loved calling Elizabeth "Mom". She is survived by her children, Ray (Linda) Nemecek, Judy (Mike) Klinck, Sharon Bader, Lorraine Nemecek, and Ken (Julie) Nemecek; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as bonus children, Greg and Teresa Gach and boys; and numerous nieces and nephews. She had one surviving sister-in-law, Joanne Velat. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, Jerry and Mary Velat; brothers, Jerry, Bob, and Ed; sister, Othelia; and son-in-law, Ed Bader. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Francis Prayer Center in Flint, MI, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton, MI, or the charity of your choice.
