BOTH, Elizabeth Queen (Scottie, Betty) originally from Grand Blanc, passed away on December 28th, 2006 at the Battle Creek Health Systems Select Specialties Hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. Â Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. (Just south of Hill Rd.) Â Military honors will be performed under the auspices of the Marine Corps League, Flint Detachment # 155. Visitation will be held 11AM Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home. Â Elizabeth was born on May 29, 1923 in Ingersoll, Canada. Her parents Mary and Robert, were born in Scotland and immigrated first to Canada, before Elizabeth was born. As a young girl in Canada, she participated in Highland dancing competitions throughout Canada and the United States. Â The family then immigrated to Flint, Michigan. At the age of 18, Elizabeth applied to become a United States citizen, and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where she served her four-year term in California. Â When she returned from her tour of duty, she returned to Flint, where she taught dance lessons at the Arthur Murray dance studio and met her husband Stephen. She and Stephen were married over 38 years before his passing. Elizabeth was employed by the Grand Blanc Schools where she worked at Indian Hill Elementary as a librarian for 25 years. Â Elizabeth (Scottie) and her husband were very involved in the American Legion Post #413 in Grand Blanc where they served on many committees and helped with many social functions at the Post. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, traveling, being with friends and playing with the cat. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen G. Both of Grand Blanc, her sister Catherine Wolf of Florida, and her parents, Mary and Robert Burnside of Flint. Â Surviving are her daughter, Mary F. Both of Battle Creek, and her son, Kirk S. Both of Grand Blanc, and her beloved cat Kaleigh. Our sincere thanks to all of her new Battle Creek friends, (Ann, Barb, Diane, JoCool, Toni, Theresa and others we may have forgotten), the staff of Lakeview Meadows of Battle Creek, Melissa and Pat, and her very special friends of Grand Blanc for their love and support throughout the years and her illness. We appreciate all you have done for Elizabeth and the family. Thank you all. In lieu of flowers, (since many of you who knew her, knew how she felt about flowers!) donations may be made to the Battle Creek Humane Society, Heart Association, or to the American Legion Post #413 for scholarship purposes.
