ROCKWOOD, Elaine M. - Age 75, made her transition from this earthy life on July 5, 2007. Born in Superior, Wisconsin on Sept. 19, 1931 to proud parents Arthur and Marie Johnsen, she and her brothers Palmer and Leonard grew up and attended school in Alpena, MI. While practicing her craft as an x-ray technician, Elaine met Douglas Rockwood. The couple wed in 1958 and began a family in Flint. In 1964, the couple purchased land on Squaw Lake in Fenton Twp. and built their family home. Elaine spent her final days at the lake she loved, as did Douglas, who passed in 1983. A long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fenton, Elaine met and married Robert Schettenhelm, also a long-time church member, in 1988, making their home in Fenton. After retiring from Michigan School for the Deaf in 1997, Elaine bought a house in Phoenix, AZ. She also purchased a summer residence in Argentine. Elaine made new friends easily and touched people's lives wherever she went. She helped her community by volunteering her time and talents to many organizations, including the Fenton Area Resource and Referral (FARR) store. Elaine is loved and will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law Paul and Doreen Rockwood (of Phoenix, AZ) and son Mark Rockwood (Linden), as well as a host of close friends, family and neighbors, for whom she considered herself truly blessed. Open visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd. on Saturday, July 14th from 1-4:00 p.m., 6-9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, July 15th, from 12-3:00 p.m. A special memorial service will then be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 806 Main St., Fenton, at 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
